Would You Like To Become A Member?

The York Pioneer and Historical Society provides many opportunities to learn about the people, stories and events that built Toronto and York Region and provide the framework for today’s growing communities! Members can participate in special events, such as the annual dinner – featuring a guest speaker – and the fall bus tour to explore first-hand the buildings and heritage of local communities and landmarks.

In addition, members benefit from receiving the annual The York Pioneer, the only magazine dedicated to heritage of Toronto and York Region.  Past authors include historians Chris Raible, Mike Filey, George Duncan and Ronald Stagg.

And there’s the Update, a quarterly publication to help members keep track of events and achievements by the Society and its members.

Whether you choose to join the Society or not, participating in events with members brings many rewards.  Scadding Cabin is open to the public during Doors Open Toronto, the CHIN picnic and the CNE.

Become a York Pioneer, and see what happens next!

“It is a duty which we owe to our forefathers to take what note we can of the labours of their hands; to forbid, so far as we may, the utter oblivion of their early efforts, and deeds, and sayings, the outcome of their ideas, of their humours and anxieties; to forbid, even, so far as we may, the utter oblivion of the form and fashion of their person.”

Henry Scadding, D.D., Toronto of Old, Toronto: 1873, p. 25.  Dr. Scadding was a founding member of The York Pioneer and Historical Society and its president from 1880 to 1898.
