Opportunities for Volunteers
Volunteering with the York Pioneer and Historical Society is an opportunity to learn more about our past and to share your passion for the heritage of Toronto and York County. We welcome all talents and backgrounds; help us make our history come alive while meeting new people and developing new skills!.
Board of Directors: Members-at-Large
Members-at-Large are YPHS members willing to sit on the board to learn about the operation of our Society. They attend Board meetings (6 to 8 annually), work on special projects and may sit on one or more committees.
Volunteers are needed to work on committees chaired by board members. The time commitment ranges from 3-4 hours at a single event to 3-4 hours a month for long-term projects. You decide what you can give.
Our committees are:
Membership: plan new ways to expand our community connections. Help us increase membership and subscribers to our annual journal.
Programme: organize YPHS events such as the launch of our annual journal, a spring lunch/dinner with a guest speaker and a fall bus trip
Scadding Cabin: volunteer at Toronto’s oldest house, our 1794 log cabin located at Exhibition Place. We are open in May for “Doors Open”, the CNE in August/September and a few other days.
Editorial: There are opportunities to research, write and proofread booklets, flyers and brochures, as well as our annual journal, The York Pioneer.
Publicity: We welcome society-related items and photographs for our newsletter, The Update. Tech-savvy volunteers are especially welcome; we need help with social media such as Facebook and Twitter, and help with our listing on CHIN (the Canadian Heritage Information Network).
If you can help in any of these ways or others that you might suggest, please contact us through our electronic mailbox, firstname.lastname@example.org and please make sure to include the word "Volunteer" in your subject line.
